THE DARKSTONE WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Volume 4. Issue No. 1 - January 8th, 2001

Congratulations!!

This week we congratulate Judicus who is now a deity, his new title is Judicus, the God of Might.

Congratulations to Marenil, the Nightstalker, who is Clan Leader of Shadows.

Congratulations as well to Zaradali, the Clan Leader and organizer of Guardians, and to Galdren who is no. 1 and Justen who is no. 2 in the clan.

The Mage

Mysterious and magyckal, the mage at first appears to be one of the weakest classes physically, but their mental abilities have no par. Though they begin weak, through learning, mages grow in knowledge and power, until they become a formidable fighting force. Mages' have a vast repertoire of useful spells, making them much sought after beings, for their spells can mean the difference between victory and defeat for other players.

Interview with Cyo

Q. How does the mage compare to other classes such as druids or clerics?

R. The mage class is very versatile, and they have many healing and levelling spells like clerics, yet they have more. They have many spells that help in the Role Playing aspect of Darkstone. I have been almost every class at one point or another and I found Mages to be, by far, the best.

Q. What is your most useful spell?

R. hmm....that would have to be Nova. It is most powerful.

Q. Does the inability to wear metal hamper you in any way?

R. Yeah, it does. Its kinda annoying when you find some good Eq. but you can't use it. However it is a small price to pay for their powers

Q. What piece of equipment is best for a mage?

R. I'm still working on the one :)

Q. Are you often called upon to assist other characters because of your spell casting abilities?

R. Yeah, but I enjoy helping people. If someone doesn't like helping out others, don't be a Mage.

Q. What is the greatest difficulty encountered by a mage?

R. Probably that whole can't-wear metal-thing :)

Q. What advice would you give to any newbies who are interested in being mages?

R. It may be hard at first, but it is well worth it. Their spells are far greater than those of any other class.

Ramblings From Seluctruh's Lair

Greetings!

Welcome to another great year of Legends of the Darkstone. The mud continues to find ways to re-invent itself each year. This year should be no different. A new generation of builders are helping to make sure that the game stays fresh and on the cutting-edge of technology.

Also, maybe you have noticed a new clan has emerged in the lands. The new clan is called Shadows. I am afraid that not much is known about the clan yet. They tend to keep to the shadows and prefer to be very private. Thus, the name, Shadows.

This week I will begin construction on the new Woodsman Guild. It will be for the druid and ranger classes. More will be told of this new guild in time, I am sure.

The Dark Lord

The Darkstone Grimoire

Unfortunately this week, because he is away doing a secret service for Lord Seluctruh, risking his life (?) by being exposed to large doses of sunlight, Darkenvai was unable to send me an addition to his infamous Grimoire, but we can look forward to the resumption of his dark and fearsome tales in time for the next newsletter.

The Gambit Report

Gambit has also been on some sort of a secret mission this past week, and so we will have to wait for the next issue for his take on the state of our small world!

Cywry's Commentary

Greetings to one and all! and a happy and healthy New Year. The New Year has already wrought many changes to our world. Two clans have arisen. Shadows, which is a dark clan devoted to evil who roam the realm terrorizing the innocent and attempting to turn all they meet to the side of darkness. The Clan, which was begun by Judicus, before he ascended to immortality, is headed by Marenil the Nightstalker, who roams throughout the world of darkness, ready to waylay any unwary adventurers.

Zaradali has begun the Clan of Guardians, whose aim is to preserve justice and maintain a balance of neutrality within the realm. The Guardian Clan Hall has been finally prepared after many weeks of effort, and all those whose interest is in role play and fairness are welcome to join.

Judicus' rise to immortality is no surprise to anyone. His hard work and creative mind, as well as his devotion to Lord Seluctruh have ensured his place among the ranks of the immortals of Darkstone.

The world has become a more welcoming place. With higher levels achieved by those who desire strength and power, they now have reached a stage where communication and relaxation have taken the place of frenzied levelling.

The amount of role play within the realm has increased significantly, with many players taking the time and opportunity to make their characters into real beings. It is wonderful to see players whom you can love for the way they behave, as well as players whom you can fear or even dislike, because their roles allow for that.

There was a battle to the death between Aserak and Gelltor this week which was well played, and well documented. Two fairly evenly matched players chose to fight to the death, and agreed to a set of rules. Their were witnesses to the battle and all ended up fair and well. Gelltor was defeated by Aserak this time.. but, who knows what will happen next…

I had a little adventure of my own this week, when Aserak attempted to induct Jornel and I into shadows against our will. Jornel was cast out almost instantly, when they realized that his goodness would only contaminate their evil ways, but Aserak fought long and hard to keep me with them. Fortunately, Jornel and Gilthas were there to protect me from evil, but sadly, during the battle they each lost their lives on my behalf. It is good that they were able to recover and are again among the living!

The new year brings many new creative challenges to all of Darkstone, and I am looking forward to opportunities to have lots of new and exciting things to write about each week.

News From My Secret Source

My secret source informs me that ….
Many have now reached the grand height of level 50. This means a bit more relaxation and less levelling frenzy. Along with the arrival of several new level 50s comes the arrival of a new clan. This new clan, led by Judicus, calls themselves Shadows.

Other clans that are currently being formed are The Guardians, with leader Zaradali, and Ascension, with leader Dain. Shadows are a highly secretive group of "Assassins." The original title for this clan was Dark Order. Most experienced players are now in the clan Shadows..

Several crashes have occurred this week. One theory is because of a player name Wasabi, with a description that includes several 'Wasabis.' Another theory is Seluctruh's minions biting through the connection wires with their fangs. (that's the one I believe in).

A third theory stems from the Grand Minstrel, Nema Mena, who is in the process of creating a brand new area. Sources say his new area will include lots of super-mobs, perhaps relatives of the great demon imp and the great Count Vladimir Von Tatich. One wonders what kind of equipment could thrive in such an area.

Now that the holidays are over, we can get back into our old pattern. Ask everyone to send in their renamed Objects names'. You can post them on here.

(Word from Vulcan)
- This is your char... *holds up a shiny white egg*
- This is your char when you break the rules... *Pulls back and hurls the egg at a great rate of speed into a brick wall, runny goo oozing down the side*
Follow the Rules
(I think most people will understand what he is talking about)

Until next week.. Fare thee well to all players, and may you walk in sunshine or in moonbeams and be at peace within and without the realm of Darkstone!
