Magical Ascension

The sound of the water falling from the fountain in the Guardian’s courtyard had been just what I had needed to be able to meditate. I am not sure how long I had been sitting there on the bench, lost in my thoughts, regaining the mana necessary for my magic when a slight tickling of my senses began to draw me from my meditations. I was receiving a communication from one of my clan members. I opened my eyes, and listened with my inner senses. One of them had gotten themselves lost out in the wilderness without a source of light again. I softly chuckled to myself, seems some refresher courses in night time travel were in order.

I sent a reply, that I would be forwarding a ball of light to them, then I closed my eyes and drew upon the magic that flowed inside of me, concentrating on creating shards of iridescent light, then gathering them together into a solid ball of light. When I opened my eyes, I was holding in my hand the object of my creation. A magical, glowing ball of light. I stared into its iridescence; momentarily drawn in by the swirling patterns being created from the encased light shards. I started to reminisce about a certain ball of light that I had created in my youth. One that I had so proudly created and showed to the keeper of the magic shop in Windy Bluff when I was but 17 years old back on that fateful day when my life changed from simple farmer’s daughter, down the magical path that I am now
traveling.

It had been the magic I felt inside of me that had made me leave my home and all that I knew, and head out in search of a teacher. Someone who could help me understand what it was that I felt flowing through my very being. My travels led me to the town of Windy Bluff, and the magic guild there. I had been overjoyed to finally find a place where I felt welcomed and normal, not something to be ashamed of and hidden away. I studied hard, and learned all that my teachers could show me, until the day came that I had to go out into the world and continue my studies on my own, having learned all that my teachers could teach me.I had traveled the realm then, and eventually joined up with a group of people whose goal it was to take in the youth of the land and teach them the skills they need to survive. It brought me great pleasure to be able to take the lessons I had learned in my youth about my magic, and teach them to
others who reminded me so much of myself when I was younger. These thoughts brought a smile to my face, and took me from my musings. I uttered a few magical words, and the ball slowly disappeared from my hand, sent to the one standing in the dark, waiting on my aid.

The sound of laughing voices drew my attentions back to the doorway of the castle. Coming out to the courtyard was a group of my young students, all talking together at once, excited about the adventure they were getting ready to head out on. They had come to me, to request some spells before they departed. After securing the knowledge that they were all properly outfitted for adventure with food, water, and light, I then gave each of them in turn the gift of flight, and some defensive spells to protect them on their travels. With a hug in payment from each, and a promise that they would have fun, they all took off back into the castle and out to the start
of their adventure.

I wandered over to the fountain, and ran my fingers through the crystal clear water. The wondrous feeling of having all that recent magic flowing through me was still with me as it always was after having used an extensive amount of magic. I gripped the edges of the fountain with my hands, closed my eyes and sent a silent thanks to the gods for having granted me the magic that flowed hrough my being. The sound of a musical voice from behind me made my eyes flash open, and I spun myself around. Standing before me was the Star Goddess herself.

The shimmering stardust swirled to the ground at my feet and Tatianna dipped her head in a slight bow, a smile upon her lips. As I raised my head from my bow I saw her eyes sweeping the courtyard of the castle, she took in a deep breath and said, “Oh how I love the smell of magic in the air!” I nodded in agreement as I touched my heart lightly. “Magic is my life. It has ever been
a part of me.”

A curious look crossed her face and she tilted her head slightly as she asked me, “Do you think you have learned all the magic you possibly can in this world?” My mind flashed over the thousand years I had spent learning and practicing my magic, the hours I had spent casting spells and all the burned fingers and eyelashes I had suffered from my failed attempts. I thought about the many guild masters whose skills I had long since surpassed. I imagined the library in my home and all my spell books and tomes that were worn thin from my constant studying of their secrets. Slowly I nodded my head. “Other than the dark arts which I have no desire to learn, I have learned all there is to know about magic in this world.”

Tatianna turned and walked a few paces towards a large bed of roses. Her deep blue gown seemed iridescent in the starlight of the evening, almost as if tiny stars danced across the fabric. I wondered at the magic that must have created such a fabric and suddenly a startling new awareness filled my mind and I knew deep within my soul that there was much, much more magic out there than I had ever dreamed of. The thought of learning greater magic filled my entire being with a powerful rush that was so strong and intoxicating that I felt my knees go weak. I leaned against the fountain, my heart racing in my chest from this sudden realization.

Tatianna turned to watch me, a look of amusement on her face. Lifting her hand slightly she twisted her wrist, lifting her palm to the sky and spoke a single word. In a flash of shimmering stardust, a sparkling star appeared, hovering just above her hand. “Magician’s tricks” she laughed, blowing on the star that burst into a rainbow of color and fluttered to the floor. Turning serious, she stepped closer to me and held my gaze with her blue eyes. “Phyre,” she said, casting her arm towards the sky. “There is magic out there, beyond anything you can comprehend. Magic fills the universe and flows through us. It’s just waiting there for us to tap into it and make it work for us.”

Taking my hands in hers, I felt a charge of energy flowing through her fingers filling me to almost overflowing. “I have watched you all your life,” she said. “From the day you were born, I felt your magic and I knew you.” She let my hands go and touched my forehead, the energy still pouring from her fingers. “It is time for you, Phyre, to rise up and take your rightful place amongst the stars as the immortal that you are.”

A sound like a billowing surge of wind swept around me and a tingling started at my toes and filled me to the top of my head as I felt myself swirl upwards. The stars rushed at me as I flew through the sky, faster than any magical spell I had ever cast. In an instant I was in a place I’d never been before. My eyes were opened and I saw the hosts of the heaven, I saw the evil legions and I saw the world below me, everything was open to my gaze as I stared in wonderment.
