The Story of St. Augustine
This tale begins 50 years ago in St. Augustine's Castle
A young man by the name of Vladamir Tatich had worked his
way up from an apprentice at the local farm to finally fulfilling his
lifelong goal of working for St. Augustine. As all of the townspeople
know, St. Augustine was the leader of the Holy Knights of the 7th Order.
These Holy Knights have always protected the town from evil. Now, as
the army was becoming much stronger, they were preparing to branch off
further to the west. Rumors had it that an evil race of blood sucking
men were emerging there. This news had caused fear throughout the land.
Never before had there been any actual sightings, only rumors. Now,
word has gotten back that indeed vampires were overtaking the Bar-Gith
forest. A feast was being prepared and a celebration was at hand on
this night. For in the morning the army would march into Bar-Gith and
destroy forever the myth of the vampire.
On this very night, St. Augustine was hard at work on his
presentation he was to give to the townspeople. In the basement, Vladamir
was working hard on a new sword for his master to carry into combat.
Vladamir had dedicated his life to St. Augustine ever since St. Augustine
had taken pity upon him at a local fair. Vladamir was wrestling a hog
in the fair to earn money for his master. The farm was not doing so
well as of late, and Vladamir had been doing a lot of extra jobs to
carry the farm. St. Augustine liked the gusto of Vladamir and sent a
letter for him to come to the castle and join his staff. Vladamir, upon
reading the letter, immediately darted out the door, spat on his former
"master", and ran down the road to the castle. Ever since that day,
Vladamir and St. Augustine had been the best of friends. Vladamir seldom
left his Master's side. St. Augustine had been preparing Vladamir for
the Knighthood. In St. Augustine's heart, Vladamir was like a son to
him. Unknowm to Vladamir, St. Augustine was going to officially adopt
the 18-year-old Vladamir.
Meanwhile, high above the god Seluctruh looked on in disbelief.
With the power of the Darkstone he had slowly started the process of
building a race of Vampires in his likeness. He had slowly started releasing
some of his "prototypes" on the forest of Bar-Gith to test out their
powers. They were not exactly perfect but he had slowly assembled a
small coven of vampires. Now, his dream was about to end because of
one man ... St. Augustine! As Seluctruh looked down he saw a young lad
working hard on a sword for St. Augustine. A smile beamed from Seluctruh
lips.
Vladamir heard a noise and turned around to see a dark
figure standing before him. Seluctruh was a young looking god and his
skin was fair like the color of snow, his touch is rumored to be as
cold. "Hello, my name is Seluctruh". Seluctruh bowed and sat down before
Vladamir. Vladamir peered at the god and wondered what kind of prank
this was. Seluctruh was rumored to be the god of vampires. Everybody
knew vampires and Seluctruh were just lore and nothing more, children's
stories if you will. Vladamir wondered how anybody could have gotten
past the guards. Seluctruh stood up and walked over to Vladamir. They
gazed into each other's eyes. Seluctruh knew he could get any mortal
to do his bidding. The vampire's gaze was more than any mortal could
resist. It was hypnotic. Seluctruh slowly whispered into Vladamir's
left ear, "I need you to do me a favor. I need you to kill your master
in cold blood tonight".
Vladamir weeped. "I can't", yelled Vladamir. Seluctruh
sunk his teeth hard into Vladamir's neck. Blood poured out from the
god's mouth. Seluctruh let go of his bite temporarily and lapped at
the blood with his tongue. The fluid was incredibly warm and sweet.
He quickly sank his teeth back into the neck and Vladamir let out a
muffled yell. Seluctruh sucked out the blood in ecstasy much as a baby
enjoys the life giving milk from a mothers breast. Seluctruh's head
followed Vladamir's body as it fell to the floor. Seluctruh gave the
wound a final lick and quickly began chanting some words in an unfamiliar
language. Slowly, Vladamir awakened from his coma he had fallen into.
His face was pale, his body seemed much stronger than before, and his
senses seemed more aware of his surroundings. Seluctruh slowly walked
toward him and gave his final command of the night. Kill St. Augustine.
Vladamir looked up at Seluctruh and said without hesitation, "Anything
you say my Master".
Seluctruh was pleased. Before leaving Seluctruh said, "For
this deed I promise you much success in life. Once St. Augustine is
dead this castle will be yours and you will command a legion of undead,
including my vampire warriors. You will be the mightiest man in the
land." Vladamir bowed and thanked Seluctruh. The god vanished in a puff
of smoke. Vladamir walked over to the sword, gave it one more shine
and headed for the door. St. Augustine was finishing his speech. He
was in the holy sanctuary he had built in his basement. The room was
marvelous. It had no ceiling, and the walls extended up 100 feet. The
sun and moonlight illuminated the room quite well. The floor was covered
in grass, a large statue of St. Augustine, that had been built by the
people, was placed inside of a large fountain in the center of the room.
On this particular night, St. Augustine had hidden his holy blade. The
townspeople called it simply St. Augustine's blade. It had magical properties
against evil creatures, and he feared that whatever was spooking people
in the forest may try to steal his blade. Just then St. Augustine heard
a yell from the entrance of the door. It was Vladamir. He had jumped
back out of the room just as quickly as he entered it. St. Augustine
ran to his aid. Vladamir was visibly shaken. St. Augustine held him
in his arms. They embraced for a moment before Vladamir stepped away.
St. Augustine looked at the sword and smiled. "I see you made me another
sword to carry into battle. You are my pride and joy". Vladamir grinned
and pointed the sword out to his master. Without hesitation Vladamir
shoved the sword quickly into the chest of St. Augustine who was not
expecting the blow. He fell to his knees in utter disbelief. His eyes
staring into Vladamir's the whole time. Blood trickled from his mouth
as he uttered, "Why." Vladamir smiled at his former master and pulled
the sword out from his chest.
Vladamir replied, "I am now a creature of the night. Please
forgive me. I know not what I do." With that said Vladamir did a quick
turnabout in mid-air and swung the sword completely around in a circle.
It landed squarely on St. Augustine's neck and continued on its journey
until his head plopped to the floor. A new Era was about to begin ...
Meanwhile, up above, Seluctruh returned to watch his scheme
unfold. Just then the Greater God Tarin stormed into the room. "Seluctruh,
what is the meaning of this! Why have you interfered with the happenings
of the world? This kind of interference is unacceptable".
Seluctruh bowed his head and knelt down in front of Tarin.
"Forgive me Lord. It was all I could do to stop the imbalance of the
world. Good was overtaking the land. We all know good and evil must
always be aligned." Tarin was not convinced.
"Stop the lies Seluctruh or I will be forced to slay you
and take what is left of your measly soul."
Seluctruh gulped uncomfortably. He was accustomed to being
in charge and he did not have to answer to many. Unfortunately this
was not one of those times. Seluctruh broke down and cried before the
High Lord. "Forgive me. St. Augustine was planning to eliminate my newly
created vampires. I worked for such a long time to create them in my
likeness. Watching them die would be like watching a part of myself
die. They are a part of me! A part of my soul! There is nothing I can
do now. Look down below".
As Tarin looked down he saw Vladamir's sword sail through
the air and slice through the neck of St. Augustine. Within minutes
the castle below was swarming with undead and vampires. The celebration
outside soon turned into a bloodbath, as the Knights were all unarmed.
Seluctruh smiled as he saw the Knights bow their head for the holy blessing.
In a split second, 20 vampires appeared behind them and quickly sliced
their throat from ear to ear. The townspeople died just as fast. In
a matter of minutes the town was conquered and the only inhabitants
were the undead. Tarin peered at Seluctruh. They have always been great
friends and worked together to create this great land. It was apparent
that Tarin was not pleased with Seluctruh going behind his back and
interfering in the world. The two walked out of the room and down the
hall. Seluctruh turned toward Tarin and smiled. "You know Tarin. We
sometimes have our disagreements. But yet we remain friends through
it all. Regardless of what lies ahead in our world I fear not because
I am with you. Now lets call together the other Gods We have a lot of
work yet to do and I have a lot of explaining to do .... "
