Immortal Stories

Journal Writings on a Changing Friend

It has been several weeks since Barset's sudden departure from Ganat's deityhood ceremony. He has retreated to the furthest part of the realm and barely shows his face amongst us. I am quite concerned about that unhealed wound on his neck. Ever since Xodus bit him he has been behaving most strangely. I tried to cast a healing spell upon him but he flung his arms up and blocked the magic with a dark energy shield.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, it is never wise to allow an dead undead to suck your blood..if that makes sense. Whatever transpired during that bite, it has certainly taken a path of destruction on both the vampire and the victim. Xodus has not survived the taking of the purest blood of a good immortal, and Barset does not seem to be surviving well, the evilness, which penetrated his very core from that one incident, appears to be taking over.

I was shocked to see what he was wearing today when I sought him out - pants made from the burnt hide of elves! Such sacrilege towards my people is unacceptable!

I tried speaking with him about it but he shouted angrily to leave him alone. He raved about his power to control people and when I mentioned caring about the forest and the animals like a good ranger should he all but threw me out of the cave he seems to have chosen for his abode. He would not listen to reason and something in his eyes greatly disturbed me.

I will watch him and wait....for what...I know not......

May the stars preserve us.
