Gelltor - A Biography

Gelltor's tale begins a long time ago in the land of Erinswood. It was a sunny day in mid-spring when the elven child, Gelltor, was born into the world. He never really got to know either of his parents because shortly after giving birth to him, his mother died. The causes of her death are unknown. As for Gelltor's father, he was a Holy Knight of the 7th Order. He left on a crusade before Gelltor was even born, to protect a town near the outskirts of the Bar-Gith Forest. The crusade was to be lead by Saint Augustine against the vampires that had started to appear in Bar-Gith. All of the Holy Knights of the 7th Order died on that day, including Gelltor's father.

Many seasons passed and Gelltor grew to be ten years of age. It was in that same year that he turned ten that an elder bishop of Erin noticed a strange marking on the back of Gelltor's left hand. The bishop knew that he had seen the symbol before, but he couldn't place it. So he decided that he should take the young elf and go see if the loremaster knew anything of the symbol. The loremaster searched through the records of ancient times looking for the symbol, because he recognized it as well. He found the symbol and explained to them that whomever bore that crest was destined to become the Guardian of the Realm. He also went on to say that the chosen one was to be a Holy Knight of the 7th Order. Gelltor was the last Holy Knight of the 7th Order, and the Dark Lord had overlooked his existence.

So it was that Gelltor Vengro was the one destined to become the Guardian of the Realm. At his current age, however, he was not able to undertake such a commitment, so the elders of Erin held a council to determine what course of action they should take to safeguard him. They knew for sure that they could not keep him hidden within the borders of Erinswood, because if Seluctruh discovered him they would be assailed and Gelltor would certainly be destroyed. Instead, they decided to disguise him as a troll using transformation magic, until he came of age and was able to carry out his role. The coming of age for elves is three hundred years, which isn't that long in their reckoning. When he reached the age of three hundred the spell would be made to dissipate and return Gelltor to his true form. They chose the troll because there were not any trolls in the Holy Knights of the 7th Order, and also because they are dim-witted and the Dark Lord would not think to look to their race for the Guardian of the Realm. The only side-effect of this transformation, that they knew of, was that when Gelltor returned to elven form, all types of identify magic would still classify him as a troll. Gelltor agreed to this plan because he knew that it was in the best interest of all. After the change was complete he traveled to Windy Bluff to begin his training as a knight.

When Gelltor reached the age of three hundred he had already traveled to many different lands and attained much wisdom and knowledge. He was glad to be returned to his elven body and he now knows what his purpose is and will not fail to bring peace and order to the Realm.
