A
heart warming tale of misadventure in the times of Darkness and the Return
of the Light.
Many stories of the realm deal with heart pounding, gut wrenching,
knock down drag out heroic action, or tear filled, heart breaking, head
pounding tales of loves lost, and even just plain old ramblings about
the day to day lives of the citizens of the cities told by a wandering
minstrel. But no story has ever dealt with the life, or rather the undoing
of life, not by death, greed, suicide, or the rise to the immortal ranks,
but rather the untwisting of the strands of fate by a single question
to which the answer had been solved long before the question was put
forth by an innocent who had no idea that the answer would lead to the
unraveling of a character devoted to the quest of finding questions
to which the answers were already known by a curse of the fabled Darkstone
that has given a fallen man a purpose to which to devoted his life without
worry of the whims of the Gods or of two such immortals: Seluctruh,
who had given this poor soul his life and taken it away countless times
because of the lack of direction given to him but found later in life
through the Goddess, Tatianna whom he helped guide when she was but
reborn in the realm as mortal flesh, to which he longed for her heart,
and when she attained immortality he was long in winter love's cold
embrace of unrequited and non returned affection, but a friendship did
endure, then while the twisted courtship by the Dark One endured, he
turned traitor to his creator to try to put out the fires of love between
Tatia and Seluctruh, and fight for the honor and innocence of his Goddess,
while this fight did nothing more than anger Seluctruh, it did reveal
to this lost man that the powers of the Gods is mostly wasted between
the same emotions as mere mortals, and that the best of intentions lead
to ruin the same for the immortals as does it befall the mortal realm,
and after finding nothing to satisfy his void of direction, he turned
to misdirection and led an ignoble life mixed between fighting for honor
and hunting for blood to satisfy an undead hunger that could not be
quenched merely in life giving juices, but lost to the world he was
when he stumbled upon a gift that most would deem a curse, while it
saved his life in the realm, it also lost his sanity to it, for this
gift was bestowed by a random act that was the driving force in his
life as the same kind of act gave him his curse, it also turned out
later to be his undoing, but the details of the first act are few and
far between because this narrative is written not by a third party yet
written in third person, but by the inflicted himself, who finds that
details of change cannot mitigate the circumstances surrounding the
unknown and least important facts, the fact of the matter is, is that
a curse/gift was received, and his life's meaning was now defined to
quest and preach to the world for the questions that the curse had given
him the answers, and the one question he searched for had the answer
that "All is made for just illusion to escape from the world," which
led to a minor quandary and yearning to learn illusions to best find
what an illusion is for through the magical arts of minor carnival players,
a quick and easy route he figured to learn such things, and this brought
his love of clowns, circus's, bards, and carnivals to fruition, to which
he made his home in the Cavalcade of Wonders, and through many years
of travel and hardship and returns to his home, a collection of many
fine artifacts was stored and stolen from there, though he had no care
of such things, and once he gave away all he had to those who would
partake in the middle of Windy Bluff town square, finding that nudity
and the abolition of all ownership rights would lighten the load for
travel as well as the dangers of robbery and the sin of greed, later
of course due to high demand to cover up himself he resigned to wearing
a minimal of clothing, then after many years of living in the circus,
he decided to become a Jester, an entertainer for not nobleman, but
for all the people of the realm of which he believed all equal and as
noble as the Gods and hence he gave away his delightful songs, poems,
and actions, and even answers unfulfilled without the questions, to
all who would listen, so many came, but only few would truly listen
and hear that the Truth to which all search is hidden in the words he
claimed were but unquestioned answers being that all life as he knew
it was an answer to the question that was unstated, this all leads to
the one day in the daily walks outside of Windy to which he partook,
and once passed upon a child of the Elven race whom he passed many times,
but finding that day he understood the child's pleads to help return
him to his mother, he told the child that a search is best found with
the right quest, and brought the child along on his journeys, and after
a long time of travel around the realm, the child asking many questions
and giving the Jester many of the questions for which he searched and
to which had the answers, the child learned many things and grew to
become a knowledgeable and quick witted person that perfectly complemented
and gave sanity to the insanity that plagued the Jester, and this led
of course to the parting ways of company one night by one final and
just as innocent a question as a young mind can give of, "What is our
life's purpose in the Realm of the Darkstone?", and once the question
was pondered by the Jester, and being that he already had the answer,
the ultimate question was answered and just as quickly, his existence
ended as quickly as the mystery of a magicians trick is revealed.
