I
had been to Kettin many times in my life. Times had past and this great
city had been under attack many times by my people. But when I came here
I only sought the exotic gifts and armors they had sold here for many
years. I always came here in order to buy scrolls to see the many invisible
people and things across the lands, great pieces of equipment I had used
in order to protect myself in the times of danger and battle, and great
potions to improve my intelligence and wisdom of the realms.
But this day seemed different. I had entered the city with only one
thing in my mind, to get to the castle as soon as possible to help the
king and his guards with their troubles at this time. I entered Town
Square and looked around. Across from me was the guard. I walked over
and started to talk to the guard. He asked a few questions and I told
him the day was good as always. He allowed me to pass into the great
castle. Upon entering the great halls of granite, I made my way to the
stairs and started up. The hall was great and long, but I made my way
down to the end and then to the left. In front of me was a great door
that led to the thrown where the king sat watching over his city.
Opening the door, two guards stepped in front of me and stopped me.
The king looked at me from afar and asked me, "We do not accept your
kind here!"
I slowly made my way over to him and the guards drew their weapons.
I stopped and bowed in front of the king. The king nodded at me and
ordered the guards to put their weapons up.
"I have come to help you sir, to rid your palace of this great beast."
I told him.
He laughed quietly and then looked up at me in such a serious but
crazed look, "Do you think your mere self will be able to defeat this
grand beast. He lurks in the darkness not to be seen. I have sent many
of my guards and soldiers down in large groups in order to stop him,
they have all been slaughtered without any mercy. They have all failed
me, he will sneak up upon you and kill you as well," he sighed looked
down and then back up at me and slowly began to speak again, "He carries
a great item upon one of his fingers, a ring. This great prize will
be yours if your fate is different from my guards and soldiers."
I slowly looked at him and drew my sword and fillet and said, "your
kingdom shall live peaceful when I leave this great day, for the beast
shall be dead and his head will be mounted on my sword."
The guards led me down to the dungeon where they opened the door for
me and then fled the scene. Walking slowly further and further into
the great place, I heard noices of great screams and torture. Dripping
noices soon took over as I made my way to the very back of the great
dungeon. I saw what seemed to be a weak spot on the ground and walked
over to it. As I came closer I felt the ground give and I fell faster
and faster until I hit the ground with a great force. The wind soon
left me and I was unable to breath for a few minutes. I soon blacked
out.
When I came too, I looked around the great room. It was large and
there were blood stains along with bones of great creatures and humans
that crowded the ground. I heard what seemed to be a low grunt, but
when I searched the room I could not find anything. I took a great Shimmering
scroll from my sack and recited it. Taking another look around, I still
could not find anything here. I then recited a brief mantra to help
me see if anything was hiding. That is when I saw it. A giant beast
that seemed to be well over 10 feet tall and must have weighed around
700 pounds. This great beast looked at me and with a great roar charged
at me.
I dodged out of the way and came back around with a thunderous stab
to his back. It yelped out in pain and then slowly fell. Gaining more
strength it seemed, the creature came charging at me again and layed
into me. I fell to the ground and lost my breath again, but with the
instinct of something was about to happen I rolled out of the way when
he was about to kick me. I stood and took a slash with my sword causing
the creature to fall to its knees and with one last slash, his head
rolled to my feat. I looted the corpse of all it had and then picked
up the head.
I found my way out and soon left the palace holding the head high
in the air on my sword. Many people cheered for me and as I looked back
I saw the great king standing at a window in the palace looking down
on me. Not happy nor sad, but relieved that the great beast was dead.
I slowly then slid the ring upon my finger and felt a great bit of luck
invocate me as I left the great city.
