Mortal Stories

The Dawn of a New Era

The sun was setting on another day in the lands, giving a warm red tint to everything in sight. Stych had been roaming the lands all day trying to earn money for his Guild. He had worked long and hard for most of the afternoon and evening and it had suddenly become time to head home and get some rest after a long day.

Normally, the bed in the dormitory was so uncomfortable that no one could seem to fall asleep on it, but after the day Stych had, as soon as his head hit the pillow, he had slipped out of consciousness and into dreamland. He had dreams of becoming the greatest warrior the realm had ever seen. Dreams of being the most feared, yet most respected mortal to ever walk the lands. But this fantasy had been rudely interrupted from some commotion coming from within the barracks.

Stych, being quite curious of that which he knew little of (especially odd sounds from his home), hopped off the bed and went to investigate why everyone had been cheering. The noise was coming from the Chamber of the Creed, and he could not figure out why the room would attract so much attention, ever.

That is, until he stepped through the doorway. Instantly, he recognized many faces. The Great Star Goddess and the Dark Lord himself were standing in the middle of the room, with Tatianna holding her Crystal Sword of Starfire out at Rezyn. Gathered around them were many friends of Stych and the rest of Fighters, and a few of the guildmembers as well.

Immediately in a show of respect, he knelt before the Immortals and greeted them, this his brothers, and finally his friends that had gathered in the Chamber. Tatianna turned to Stych and asked "Would you like to join us for the ceremony, Stych?"

"I would be glad to" came his response, without a second thought. At that every instant, he felt as though something great would be happening. Rezyn was being promoted, that was certain, but rumors were flying around the room that questioned to what he was being promoted.

The Immortals had gathered to recognize Rezyn's accomplishments. They spoke of the Legends of long ago, and the Legends still to come, but on this day, a new Legend was being made. The Gods smiled down on Rezyn, and gave him new strengths and power. The greatest honour any mortal could ever achieve.

For the celebration, Tatianna had combed the lands for the oldest and rarest wine, and as a gift of his triumphs, she handed it to Rezyn, knowing he would enjoy it. She mentioned it being very rare, very old, and very hard to get. Stych quipped that it was much like Rezyn in that way.. There was much celebration, everyone having the taste of the wine (save for those who do not drink), and rejoicing in the Chamber, easily the most the room has ever seen, and then it increased...

"Might I have eVeRyones aTtEntion?" Rezyn slurred, suffering from the intoxication of the wine. He was known to keep a straight head, no matter how clouded he chose to make it. Geseg and Stych nodded and turned their complete attention to Rezyn, eager to hear what he would have to say. "These last ten centuries have been great to me. I've seen the darkstone itself shatter, and I've conquered over many enemies...some that didn't even know we were enemies until it was too late." he continued, adding a slightly dramatic pause between sentences. Arian grinned with memories of the past, as Jae clasped her hands together, watching and listening to Rezyn with rapt attention.

"As everyone knows, my Guild means everything in the world to me." he added. Geseg slowly nodded, recognizing Rezyn's devotion to not only his Guild, but his family as well. Stych knew a little more about it than Geseg did, and added that sometimes it meant more than the world. "But tonight... I shall resign from leadership." Immediately Geseg and Jae both gasped, but regardless, Rezyn continued stubbornly "Stych, I pray you take good care of the Guild I've built from the ground up."

Everyone in the room was shocked, but none more than Stych. He knew the day was coming, but he could have never guessed so soon. Stych looked up at Rezyn and told him "I shall do my best." firmly, the only logical response to such a passing of responsibility. By that time, Rezyn had already undone the buckles on his breastplate that held in on him, and he slipped out of it, and handed it to Stych, signifying his official reign of the Guild of Fighters. He stood motionless with shock for a moment, but eventually tried it on.

While Stych was busily getting out of his old bloodstained breastplate, and trying on the General's Insignia, Geseg and Arian offered their congratulations to him in the promotion within the Guild. Geseg had long been a good friend and sparring partner of Stych when they ventured in the arena, and he knew instantly a new challenge lay before him. Arian on the other hand, was quite calm and proud about it all. He recognized the change in power would affect the Guild, but only for the better.

Stych looked over at Jae and found her bright green eyes, gazing in awe and astonishment, beginning to tear up with what he could only guess was joy. They had long been friends as well, often Stych had ventured out with her in her youth and taught her a few things about surviving in the wild. Jae had been under watch from many acting on orders, but Stych helped her out because he wanted to, and even at times, helped her escape from those sent to "protect" her.

Snapping back to reality, Stych caught himself scratching his side. Not very often does a Minotaur take gifts from a Katrin, and even less often are they genuine, but the strong friendship he had made with Rezyn dating back to Stych's first steps in Windy Bluff had given the two an almost bloodline tie. Stych, however, never could get used to all the Katrin hair that Rezyn left in his armor, and loosened the buckles to relieve the itch in his sides. Stych turned to Rezyn and said "Thank you for your faith in me, and I will not let you down."

Rezyn smiled and replied "T'was not an easy thing to do... and Stych, I know you wont."

Due partially to habit, and mostly in respect, Stych saluted his mentor, but Rezyn would have nothing of it. "No more saluting for you, Stych. Now...you get all of the salutes." he said.

Tatianna studied Stych's countenance as the mantle of Leadership landed upon him. Still immobile and slightly brain dead from the shock of what had just transpired, he hardly noticed her keen eye watching him.
